Structure: Subject + Second Form Of Verb + Object

Rule 1: Simple Past Tense are used for past actions that happens or end for fixed time.
सामान्य भुत काल का प्रयोग वैसे कायों के लिए होता है, जो भुत काल मे किसी निश्चित समय मे घटित हुए य समाप्त हुए.

1. He went to Mumbai yesterday.
   वह कल मुंबई गया था.
2. She came to see me last night.
   वह कल रात मुझे देखने आई थी.
3. He takes tea without sugar.
4. The building was built in 1999.
   भवन 1999 मे बना था.
5. I bought some chocolates on Sunday last.
   मैं रविवार को कुछ चाकलेट रखा था.

Note: ऐसे वाक्यों में सामान्यतः Time expressing words जैसे - yesterday, yesterday morning, yesterday noon, yesterday evening yesterday afternoon, the day before yesterday, the other day, ago, last morning, late evening, last night, last day, last week, last month, last year, last moment etc. का प्रयोग रहता है. अर्थात - उपरोक्त समयसूचक शब्दों का प्रयोग होने पर Simple Past Tense का प्रयोग होता है.

Rule 2: Simple Past Tense are used that past Actions.
सामान्य भूतकाल का प्रयोग वैसे कार्यों के लिए होता है, जो भूतकाल मे घटित हुआ हो.

1. The peon bought a cup of coffee.
   चपरासी काफी का कप रखा था.
2. His father came back.
   उसके पापा आ गए थे.
3. I bought this pen in New York.
   मुझे यह पेन न्यूयोर्क मे मिला था.

Rule 3: Expresses the Past habitual actions useSimple Past Tense.
सामान्य भूतकाल का प्रयोग भुतकाल के आदत से सम्बंधित कार्यों को अभिव्यक्त करने के लिए किया जाता है.

1. He went on Sundays.
   वह रविवार को गये थे.
2. In my childhood, I played cricket.
   मैंने अपने बचपन, में क्रिकेट खेला था.
3. She always invited me to dinner.
   वह मुझे हमेश रात्रि भोज के लिए बुलाती थी.
4. Mohan always carried a bag.
   मोहन हमेश बैग रखता था.

Rule 4: After It is time, it is high time, it is about time, etc. use Simple Past Tense. It is time, it is high time, it is about time, etc. के बाद सामान्य भूतकाल का प्रयोग होता है.

1. It is time he stared playing cricket.
2. It is high time she left for the bus stop.

Rule 5: Related past time situation use Simple Past Tense.
सामान्य भूतकालका प्रयोग past time से related situation का बोध कराने के लिए होता है.

1. It was night. वह रात थी.
2. She was very ill.
   वह बहोत बीमार थी.
3. I was helpless.
   मैं सहायता रहित था.
4. He was very poor.
   वह बहोत गरीब था.
